Bringing The Black Boy To Manhood: THE PASSAGE

BRINGING THE BLACK BOY TO MANHOOD: THE PASSAGE
By Nathan Hare and Julia Hare
Bringing the Black Boy to Manhood issued the call and was the catalyst for the rites of passage
movement for African-American boys.
The late psychologist, Asa Hilliard, called it “a unique and
indispensable contribution…a superior roadmap.”
Praised by respected educators such as Jawanza Kunjufu, author of
Conspiracy to Destroy Black Boys and Maulana Karenga, who wrote the
book, Introduction to Black Studies and created Kwanzaa, Bringing the
Black Boy to Manhood is “a needed and creative approach” that “can
become as meaningful to black people as Kwanzaa” (in the observation of
Prof. Oba Tshaka, based on his decades on the founding leadership of
NBUF (the National Black United Front).
